Construction Industry Report 2023/Q4

The effects of the earthquake experienced in 2023 led to below-expected sectoral growth in the first half of the year; however, the acceleration of urban transformation efforts and the increasing demand for new housing in the second half of the year resulted in a momentum of growth in the sector. The growth observed in the construction sector in the second half of the year continues to contribute to the increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data for the sector. The growth recorded in the construction sector has contributed to the momentum of increasing employment data. Despite the increasing employment figures, fluctuations observed in the continuity of investments still create an environment of concern for the sectoral confidence.

When the activities constituting the GDP are examined, in the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to the previous year, according to the chained volume index:

  • Agricultural activities increased by 0.5%,
  • Industrial activities increased by 1.9%,
  • Real estate activities increased by 2.8%,
  • The service sector increased by 3.0%,
  • Financial and insurance activities increased by 7.4%,
  • Construction activities increased by 10.8%.

In this issue, in addition to the summary review of the 2023 data, you can access a special section on Building Information Modeling (BIM). In this section, you will have the opportunity to examine the usage of BIM in Turkey as well as the BIM usage goals of European countries.
